In which I engage in slightly questionable behavior

As my brother walked in from work tonight, he caught me hovering over a paper towel containing what has become a favorite snack of mine: microwaved bacon bits.
Before you inevitably judge me, let me share a few facts about this miraculous food:

1. The bacon bits come in a re-sealable pouch & are refrigerated- which any reasonably educated person knows, means they're real food

2. Recently, a couple of friends have made remarks such as "you know they still have calories, right?" and "they're not healthy if you eat them by the handful", to which I say: Wrong. Contrary to popular belief, denial is a calorie-free food & even if theoretically, the bacon bits contained them, the microwave causes fat to transfer itself to the paper towel. Duh.

3. Bacon bits are a versatile food - why, just the other night I had them with cheese and Wheat Thins. The week before? By themselves. Tonight? ON A BURGER I WRESTLED FROM MY BROTHER'S VERY HAND.

Exhibit A for AWESOME

After making snide remarks hinting at my frequent consumption of this gift of the gods, my sweet brother advised thoughtfully "hey, you could add them to the burger..." to which I responded THAT'S THE PLAN.

Exhibit B for BACON BITS on BURGER action

Of course, this activity does put a damper on my plans for executing the recently recurring fantasy of being a vegan (the "this is better for my lactose-intolerant, not good at processing animal products system" kind, not the animal rights kind) for longer than a month (with once a month bacon indulgences), but I do think this is progress, in some yet to be identified way.

By the way, that burger was a BRILLIANT idea.

This is what I'm listening to tonight...

It's pretty wonderful.

"No"?

 found via Tumblr

Ever since this past Sunday, I've been wrestling with the biggest (at least, it seems biggest at this time) portion of the changes I made a goal out of executing a couple of months ago. This phase involves regulating my sleeping habits, since I've been wrestling with insomnia for a bit over a year now - as well as picking my exercise habit back up, and adjusting my eating habits. Together, these changes will help me function optimally as an organism, and will maximize my clarity of mind, enabling my ability to absorb new material & retain. In order to give myself the best shot at something, I have to make sure all aspects of my life reflect that desire. Easier said than done, since habits are notoriously hard to break. I've been alternating between frustration and disappointment, only stopping once in a while to remind myself that I will get it right, so today's entry over at tinybuddha.com was a nice bit of encouragement, since I tend to be a bit of a people pleaser:

Other people can’t tell us how far we can go. They can’t tell us how our talents could evolve. They can’t tell us if our risks will pay off. Other people’s “nos” aren’t what limit our future–it’s our own “nos” that do that.

Instead of giving myself constant criticism as a means to push toward a goal, I should probably remind myself that I can, indeed, accomplish said goal. Can't hurt, right? No need to be our own worst enemy when facing an uphill battle.

Grandma Mannie's Watch

While digging through a bag of mixed jewelry, I came across my Grandma Mannie's watch, which instantly brought back memories of her. She was a happy, compassionate, creative, talented woman - not a day goes by when I don't wish she were still here for me to talk to, and experience life with.
The beauty of remembering her lies in recognizing that it takes a truly wonderful human being to make such a lasting impact in someone's life, and I'm so blessed to have known her.

Tim & The Tree

With enough filters, my front yard tree looks almost... pensive. Almost.

"On a motorcycle you and the bike always end up where your eyes are looking. You think it applies to life though...if you keep focusing on the tree you dont want to hit, you hit it. If you focus on the path that takes you safely past the tree, that's where you'll wind up."

My own experiences have led me to believe that "energy flows where attention goes" - Tim's take has been a refreshing new perspective, especially during a period in my life when it's taking a conscious effort to focus on the possibilities around a stressful situation.

Today, I'm grateful for the wisdom of friends.

Feeling Romanticky

I won't pretend to completely grasp this letter, though I will say that I'm completely taken by the tone, the wording - I feel the emotion of it, but cannot explain it.

Hello, Monday! (at... 3:03 AM)

via rufflemyhair's Tumblr
So, I'm basically breaking all the sleep rules I have re-learned this past week: I'm still in bed, though I cannot sleep - I'm on my computer, and I'm not using any of my relaxation/ sleep apps.
What better to do with all this excess time than roam the internet finding cute photos to blog with? (the one on the left is so summer to me, I love it).
Each time I update on this blog, I feel slight panic at the thought that I haven't yet been to the beach this summer - or done anything summery, really. I've mostly been attempting to get sleep in any way shape or form (which is silly, because I know I can function just fine without it), as well as making an effort to drastically reduce alcohol consumption, and rid my life of toxic people. The latter two, I have done quite well, and am very proud of.

[As I type this, I am now sitting up in bed, laptop on sewing table, light on - about to put pants on and get some water, since I should obviously commit to this entry if I'm going to start it.]

I should also add that I love this photo (the dress, more specifically):

In the same episode of obsessive Tumbling, I spotted the beauty above, and decided that I need to attempt the eye makeup she's sporting. Pretty sure it's going to take a lot of black shadow and blending, but I'm up for the challenge.

Did I mention I finally got an iPhone again? Bliss to end all bliss! What strikes me as slightly comical (with a tinge of annoying)is that I was excited about getting one again because I wanted to take more photos of the everyday, myself, etc. Yet I seem to have developed a total aversion to taking photographs of myself. The rare photo I do take, I scoff at and delete - I'll just prepare better next time, I'm too frazzled today I tell myself. Only, no - I feel that way because after a year of being so depressed that "dressing up" consisted of jeans and a spectrum of v-necks, I am now feeling self-conscious about stepping back into my trademark girly w/ a tomboy twist wardrobe. What will people think? I wonder. They'll think I underwent some sort of freak makeover or perhaps I'm facing some sort of crisis. Only that's a bunch of bs on my part, because if there's anything that got me to snap out of the 2010 funk, it was not giving a flip what people think of me.

3:33AM - I still need to get that cup of water. Will do so now.
Update: I now have water. The post may continue.

I just attempted to document what I look like in the middle of a far-too-late-at-night-before-a-workday blog entry, and realized that my phone's photo library mostly consists of Tiny Tower screenshots.
That is very telling.

Okay, this entry took an enormous amount of commitment to not only focusing on the fact that I was blogging, but ... I completely forgot the other commitment I made due to this entry. Regardless, I may have actually lulled myself into a feeling of sleepiness by typing. Or tiring myself out due to employing excess brainpower on a blog entry that looks like it was posted using a template designed by someone with multiple personality disorder.

I am now babbling. My work here is done.

Me

July 10th - Summer In Full Swing

This weekend, I'm pulling Teenager Duty (which I'm quite enjoying!) & have had time to think, which brought me to the realization that it's time to reassess what my intention is for this summer, and determine how I should direct/ redirect my energy  - so I can make it happen.
